CBD & You, Pt. 2: The Right Option for You

Part 1 of this two-part series dissected how CBD could be an effective tool in your anti-inflammatory and pain management toolkit. Now, you’ve researched CBD to see if it’s the cure for what ails you, you’ve spoken with your doctor and they gave you the green light to give it a go, and now you hop online, excited to try it out. Except… There are so many options out there, how can you possibly be expected to pick the perfect one for you?!

Different delivery systems are great for different needs. If you’re looking for a quick and concentrated way of ingesting CBD in a rush, maybe a smokable CBD pre-roll or vape cartridge is for you. While Serenity Potions is more concerned with amassing a collection of useful tinctures, oils, creams, and lotions, we don’t judge.

Topical ointments and creams are a wonderful way for quick, soothing relief to afflicted areas, while tinctures applied under-the-tongue will take longer to kick in, but will last you a good part of the day and won’t need to be reapplied nearly as frequently as lotions or salves.

Types of Aches and Pains CBD Can Help Relieve

Aches and pains come in all different shapes and sizes, but all share one thing in common: a neurological component. Your brain has to capture and interpret these signals your body sends to let you know where and why you hurt or feel uncomfortable. Sometimes, pain is a way of telling you something is very, very wrong (like, say, if you injure yourself). Sometimes, discomfort is your body letting you know that you did something to upset it, like eat something you’re mildly allergic to. Sometimes, your brain sends out these pain signals to your body for no good reason at all.

Because of CBD’s unique chemical makeup, some of the preliminary research on the subject (found in Part 1 of this series) shows that it can help to combat some of these messages your brain sends out, or even to stop those messages from being sent in the first place by treating pain at its source (such as in cases where CBD acts as an anti-inflammatory).

Below are samples of some of the sorts of aches, pains, and discomforts that many rely on CBD to help them deal with, as well as our recommendations of how to treat them. Keep in mind that, while we may recommend one product in particular, contrasting brands and delivery methods work differently on everyone. If something isn’t effective for you personally, it may be worth it to shop around before giving up on the idea of CBD entirely.

Arthritis is an insidious ailment that, contrary to popular belief, isn’t just a disease that affects the elderly. While there are many different types of arthritis, the common thread between them is that they are all chronic, meaning that it is a persistent problem, and progressive, meaning that it will get worse over the course of one’s life. Inter-joint pain and inflammation are difficult to treat effectively, and quality of life can decrease drastically if a working pain management strategy cannot be found. Because of its ability to help manage both pain and inflammation, covered in Part 1 of this series, CBD is in a unique position to help provide relief to many who are struggling to find an answer. It won’t cure your arthritis, but CBD can sure make it easier to live with, especially on the bad days.

For those struggling with chronic pain due to arthritis, the major increase in one’s quality of life that an effective pain management strategy can yield is priceless. Unfortunately, conventional options for combating arthritis don’t always work or can cause more harm than they do good. In these cases, attempting to integrate CBD into existing treatment strategies can help immensely. We recommend our tinctures for long-lasting and persistent all-day pain management strategies to help combat arthritis’s ever-present dull ache and can be effectively supplemented by our topical creams and balms for the sharp spikes in pain that arthritic joints can cause when the weather changes or the joints are overworked.

Chronic Pain

Chronic pain can be caused by a number of different things. While arthritis is one example of a type of severe chronic pain, any condition that never truly goes away or comes back consistently can fit the criteria. This could be anything from illnesses such as lupus and fibromyalgia, to old injuries, or even due to disabilities such as dwarfism, where joints may be more susceptible to inflammation.

As above, it might work best to build a grab-bag of products you like, that all fit specific needs. Tinctures are great to get you through the day as pain-free as possible, while our selection of topical creams and balms are amazing for targeted pain management of especially pesky pain points, as they can help to bring relief within minutes as the cream or salve sinks into the skin.

Joint Pain

Joint pain is notoriously difficult to treat and is often symptomatic of serious conditions such as arthritis and lupus. It shares much in common with our overview of arthritis and chronic pain above in terms of treatment, although we wanted to highlight one product in specific for you to check out: Our CBD Matrix Pain Relief Rub.

The cool, soothing finish of the rub can help to provide instant relief while the CBD sinks in to help combat whatever is causing the pain and inflammation in your joints. If you’re waiting on the long-lasting relief of a CBD-based tincture or oil to kick, this is just the cream for you!

Nausea & Appetite

Preliminary studies that seek to look into the use of CBD to soothing nausea is very, very encouraging. CBD can help to soothe digestive tracts, easing nausea and gastrointestinal (GI) discomfort in many of those who struggle with these problems. While CBD doesn’t outright boost one’s appetite the way the THC in marijuana does, in situations where the loss of appetite is due to extreme nausea, CBD can help to indirectly restore one’s desire to eat.

The GI tract is not well understood and a variety of reasons could be causing disruption or discomfort, including difficulty digesting certain common foods or food ingredients. If you experience chronic GI discomfort, ensuring that your diet isn’t causing your discomfort is in your best interest. If your nausea is due to illness, pain, anxiety, or depression, however, a CBD tincture or oil may do the trick. You can find our favorites in our curated tinctures collection

Overworked Muscle Aches

While stiffness and soreness from a long day at the gym or in the mountains can be excruciating, it’s also a feeling that many gym-goers and outdoor enthusiasts come to love; it’s a badge of honor marking a day of hard work. When the novelty of the soreness has worn off, however, you can turn to our Cannacare Pain Lotion to help get you back to normal in no time at all! The CBD Matrix Pain Relief Rub we mentioned above would work out spectacularly as well!

The draw to these products in particular is a cool, smooth finish which helps to numb the pain, and then, in the case of our Cannacare Pain Lotion, a warm finish to providing relief. Think of it like applying ice, and then a heating pad soon after for unmatched muscle pain relief.
